This one day training course aims to provide paddlers with the key safety and rescue skills required to operate safely in a sheltered environment and to be able to deal with common emergencies. This course can be bank based or boat based depending on the participants abilities, please contact the centre if you are unsure about what you require.
The course runs a maximum of 6:1 participant to instructor ratio, this allows for a large amount of dedicated time with the instructor to help improve your newly learnt skills.
Times for the day are 09:00 start for a 17:00 finish. (finish time may vary)
Boat-based participants need to either hold the British Canoeing Paddle Explore Award, the British Canoeing 2 Star Award or be of equivalent ability due to the paddling environment and the boat control required to complete the course.
Bank-based participants accessing the course are not required to hold a Personal Performance Award; however, they should be prepared to fully participate in all relevant aspects of the course, you will get wet!
Be able to swim in normal paddling clothing, including a personal floatation device suitable for the prevailing conditions.
A First Aid certificate is not required, however holding a First Aid certificate is strongly recommended for all paddlers.
All paddling and rescue equipment is included in the entry fee, if you wish to bring your own paddling kit including craft this is absolutely fine, and actually recommended as you will be using this kit in the real world so it’s great to get to know it.
Hot showers and changing facilities are available on site and please bring a packed lunch for the day, hot and cold drinks will be provided.
