The British Canoe Union two star award is an improvement award that helps paddlers develop fundamental paddlesports skills on flat water. The emphasis is on gaining a breadth of experience, creating the desire movement of the boat and developing an understanding of how the boat, paddle and water interact.
The training and assessment is conducted in a sheltered water environment and the award is obtained by taking an assessment in both a canoe and a kayak. The training will cover personal paddling skills, rescue skills, group leadership and theory.
There needs to be a minimum of 2 students to run the course, due to BCU guidelines. If this cannot be achieved, we will rearrange a suitable time with you to run the course.
There will be a maximum of 1 to 6 students per instructor.
Have experience of paddling at least two different craft
IN 2 different locations e.g. canal, river, lake/loch, sea, (different parts of large bodies of water will count as two locations
AND 2 local competitions e.g. club events: slalom, polo, sprint, freestyle, bell boats
2 journeys (journeys of 2 hours duration)
Time 9.30am to 4.30pm
This course is recommended for the ages of 14 years and over.
