If you’re looking to arrange an event for a large group, this is the one for you. Up to 60 participants of mixed ages, abilities, strengths and weaknesses can take part in the same session!
This 3-part event is perfect for team building, due to the various skills required to succeed. There is also the element of competition when more than one team is involved, which generally encourages teamwork.
The event is made up of 3 stages:
- Kit Retrieval
- Design, Build & Test
You and must acquire the necessary equipment to build a raft which can carry the entire team around the designated course and back to the launch site.
1. Kit Retrieval
Each team must collect specific kit (or tokens) from the island which is needed to build their raft. They are provided with a craft to get to the tokens and every member of the team must make at least one journey, until all the relevant equipment is collected.
2. Design, Build & Test
Each team must now use the kit they have gathered to construct a raft capable of supporting the entire team around the island and back to shore. They must test the raft during this time and only Horseshoe Lake instructors can deem it ‘lake worthy’.
Starting positions are decided during the first 2 stages, with various penalties in place when rules are broken. The entire team must be on the raft throughout the race and all the kit must make it around Horseshoe Island and back to the beach.
The Raft Build Challenge is also open to customisation if you have specific aims or objectives. Contact the Centre to for more information and to discuss your requirements.
