William is swimming the English Channel – Solo
See William’s story below:
I am planning on swimming the English channel in June 2023. The swim is 21 miles (nearly 34km) and takes on average 15 hours. During that time i will not be able to get out or even touch the support boat. To make it an officially recognised swim I will not be wearing a wetsuit despite the water temperature being around 16 degrees.
Since Mathew Webb swam the channel for the very first time in 1875, just 1,831 people have successfully completed the swim. This shows just how hard this challenge is when compared, for example, to climbing Mount Everest. Mount Everest is another huge task in which many people loose their lives each year, however despite the risks and the challenge over 6000 people have now successfully summited.
I hope to raise £10,000 for the Mlambe Project. Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. The Mlambe Project believe that the best means of aiding the Malawian people in their struggle against poverty is through the provision of sustainable livelihoods and a high quality education. We aim to achieve this through the use of low cost and high impact methods.
The goal of £10,000 is huge. Anything you can give to help support me and the children who will benefit from this class room and a better education is really appreciated. I will make sure I swim to France and together we can help build “The Channel Classroom”.
